Jerry Holbert drew the cartoon who is a staff cartoonist for the Boston Herald. They key objects in the cartoon are the airplane that Obama is flying which shows he is trying to avoid the missile of criticism that is following him which represents the views of the American people. Then the donkey throwing out the oil reserves shows how the Democratic Party and Obama are trying to avoid that criticism by attempting to lower the cost of oil. This shows that Obama is trying to avoid the criticism that he is facing by releasing the oil reserves and allowing some people to feel that something is being done. The technique that the cartoonist uses here is ridicule because he is portraying Obama as trying to flee from the criticism. The issue that this cartoon deals with is the crticism that Obama faces and why he has been starting to let the oil reserves be released. The cartoon's message is that Obama is only releasing the oil reserves in order to have the American people distracted from the criticism that is chasing him. The cartoonist's point of view is probably more conservative than Obama's views on the issue and more leaning towards the Republican Party.
