Question Of The Week Current Event #1
The political party that I most closely align myself with is the Democratic Party. There are many different reasons why I support the Democratic Party. I agree with health care reform and the federal government expanding into this area. Every American should have the right to affordable health care. Also Democrats are opposed to incentives for big oil companies and favor investing in renewable energy. I believe that we need to find another way to produce energy because fossil fuels are becoming depleted and releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. In contrast with the Republican Party which believes we should spend more money investing in fossil fuels such as offshore drilling. As we saw in the Gulf of Mexico with the Deepwater Horizon this can be a risky operation and end up destroying the environment and millions of people’s livelihoods.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0911/64450.html
In this article it talks about how Rep. Michele Bachmann tried to take the momentum from Governor Rick Perry by accusing him of being unprepared for foreign affairs at an event on Iowa in Monday. Bachmann tried to show that Perry who was struggling to produce a response on how as President he would handle Pakistan losing control of its nuclear arsenal. Bachmann also kept up the pressure on Perry's executive order requiring HPV vaccinations. However Bachmann still dropped 4 points in the polls but urged supporters to criticize her opponents. The topic of Cuban isolation also came up with Bachmann believing that Cuba is working with a terrorist organization called Hezbollah. This was Bachmann's second in trip in as many weeks to the state where she was born and seen as the frontrunner.
This shows that Rick Perry is starting to emerge as the leading candidate for the Republican nomination because now Bachmann is starting to slip in the polls. Even though he struggled to produce an answer to a hypothetical situation Perry still holds firm on the his positions on certain issues. With the primaries approaching soon Perry will be trying to solidify his lead by having more events and rallies on his positions.
