Question Of The Week #4
The biggest current political issue facing Virginia is transportation. Almost every budget meeting has a large part of it devoted to funds for transportation. The Metro is currently being expanded to Dulles Airport and into Loudoun County in order to ease traffic on our roadways. Also on I-495 they are constructing HOV lanes in order to relive some of the congestion during rush hour. Many of the candidates that are running in the local elections have a very firm stance on what they believe transportation should be in the future for Virginia. Since Northern Virginia is one of the fastest growing regions in the country so transportation will always be a major issue that will be on the policy agenda.

In this article it describes how Herman Cain's campaign is highly unorganized and goes against how a traditional campaign should be organized. Cain has hardly shown up and campaigned for the New Hampshire Primary or the Iowa Caucus. Both of these primaries have a lot of media attention and can create a lot of momentum for Herman Cain if he does well in them. Instead he has spent the bulk of his time running a campaign through the south. He has occasionally mishandled potential big donors and ignored possible voters. Cain who was a former business executive has been rising to the top of the polls and his campaign has shown promise since it began in the summer. However Cain has made several contradictory remarks on abortion and foreign policy which have forced him to spend time clarifying his own remarks. The campaign has acknowledged that it has been hard to keep up with Cain's growing popularity and that they are all working hard to make it happen. Also because Cain does not have political experience his campaign rests on the fact that he would bring executive level experience from the business world to the world of politics.
I believe that Herman Cain needs to create a better managed campagin in order to win the nomination from the Republican Party. He also needs to focus his attention more on detail and stop contradicting himself on his views which creates distrust among the voters. If the politican constantly is second guessing himself how will the public view him as a candidate for the presidency. More campagin management needs to be put in place which includes hiring more staff and creating more advertising mercandise to spread his name around to the public and his views on certain issues. Also since this is the primary election he needs to start gathering support from his base of voters which are the more liberal Republicans.

Question Of The Week #3
President Obama's Report Card
On health care he deserves an A because he passed the Obama care bill legislation and it will take effect soon giving all Americans the public option.
Dealing with the economic downturn President Obama deserves a C because he did pass a stimulus package to prevent a depression but still isn't doing enough to help things get better.
For the War On Terror he deserves an A- because he is slowly getting us out of The War In Iraq and Afghanistan with troops slowly being withdrawn.
His Reelection bid grade would be a B because he has raised the highest amount of campaign money in fundraising but the media and the public still view him negatively for his treatment of the economy.

President Obama has suffered the most unrelenting negative treatment of all other presidential candidates over the past few months. Mr. Obama is the subject of negative assessments four times as often as he is the subject of positive assessments. This study cuts against the conservative belief that the liberal media aides Obama and the Democratic Party. He is largely covered as president and not as Obama the campaginer and coverage of him is linked to the struggling economy. Among the Republican candidiates Rick Perry had the most positive coverage. The only candidate who recieved more negtive media coverage than Obama was Newt Gingrich.
This article shows how President Obama is currently sturggling with trying to campagin. People are linking him to the struggling economy and they want somebody new to come in and try and imporve the situation. All the news associated with im in the eyes of the public is negative even though he has fulfilled most of his promises stated in the platform.

Question Of The Week #2
One political issue that I am currently interested in is Obama's proposed new jobs package to help lower the national unemployment rate which has remained the same at 9.1% for the past couple months. If this new stimulus package does pass it would help put a lot more people back to work and get the economy back on track. I am interested in this issue because it involves everybody in the nation because the recession is currently hurting every individual and business in the United States. Also because the economy has not improved at all in the past couple months and there is even talk of a second recession. We really need this jobs package to help support the U.S. economy from another downturn.

Herman Cain has recently surged in popularity these past few weeks for the Republican nomination. However The White House believes that Mitt Romney will end up receiving the G.O.P. nomination. This is because of the other short lived surges that Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Rep. Michelle Bachmann had before Cain gained his upswing recently. Now the Obama administration will attempt to make Mitt Romney appear as a Wall Street sympathizer by taping into the public anger currently going on against the financial sector. In a debate Romney said that he would back another Wall Street bailout if needed. He has maintained consistent levels throughout the polls and has become a much better candidate from the last time he ran. Romney has to hope that he can ride out all the other candidates and remain the strongest for the G.O.P. nomination.
I believe that Mitt Romney will end up receiving the G.O.P. nomination because he appeals strongly with the public and has had consistency in the polls unlike the other Republican candidates. Also because his views are not to conservative or liberal which makes him popular to a larger number of American voters who say that they are more moderate. Michelle Bachmann appears more conservative while Rick Perry and Herman Cain both seem to be leaning more liberal. This leaves Romney in the middle for the majority of the Republican voters. However if he continues to support the financial sector with all the public anger directed towards it he could lose some conservative Republican voters.
